It's Almost December! Time to Blog About October's Snohomish River Run Half Marathon!

It's been a busy fall and with Christmas crazily announcing its upcoming presence in my life I figured I'd better get down to business on my blog.  If I wait much longer Santa will have come and gone to the beach, the Easter Bunny will be snacking on candy he couldn't fit in baskets, and I'll be packing up my camper for another summer of vacation.  In other words, months will fly by and my blog will be too far behind to catch up.  We can't have that, now can we?

October was a fun race month! The Snohomish River Run was the 15th and I was running the half with my BRF and Skirt Sister, Kristy, and my friend, Jen.  Skirt Sister's Kriss, Kim, and Lisa were also running.  Oh, and some really cute guy I married 23 years ago.

Skirt Sisters: Lisa, Me, Kim and Kriss

Kristy found us!  So did a friend of Kriss whose name I can't recall.  I'm so bad with names! Notice her shirt? It's the cute race shirt they gave out.

Here's that cute guy I was telling you I brought along to the race
The day was perfect running weather for this girl!  Cold at the start but it warmed up (but not too much) and the sun was out. This is a flat course and begins on the streets of downtown Snohomish before heading out along the Snohomish River to Lowell Riverfront Park where you turn around and head back toward Snohomish.  We personally love this course because my husband has his office off 1st street.  This means we have our own private parking spot and, just as important, our own private bathrooms!  We can avoid the porta-potty lines.  Yippee!  We actually picked up Jen and Lisa and brought them into town with us so they could avoid the parking mayhem of downtown.  And yes, they got to use our private restrooms, also.  So did Kristy.  Sorry Kim and Kriss.  Next year!

Kristy, Jen and I ran the entire race together.  We've all been experimenting with Galloway recently as we're all coming off of injuries and opted to try a 1 minute run to 30 second walk the entire distance.  We were all curious how it would work in a race settting.  It was perfect!  We never felt like our conversation was interrupted by the stop and starts, nor did the stop and starts feel overwhelming or too numerous.  Our finish time wasn't super fast but it wasn't as slow as we had thought it would be either.  And I, for one (I won't speak for the others), felt strong and energetic the entire time.  I never really experienced that late mile fade and was able to sprint to the finish.  I'm becoming a believer in the more frequent intervals Galloway recommends as opposed to the 5:1 or 10:1's I've frequently relied on.

Thanks Kristy for this fun action shot of me and Jen!

Blue Skies!

If you look really closely you can see the finish festivities across the river.  Fortunately, we didn't have to swim to reach it.

Overall, this was a fun time. I love sharing race miles with friends!  It feels like a party and I'm happy I get to play!  And I get a medal to take home at the end!  It's like going to a birthday party as a kid and coming home with party goodies!  The medal was really nice and the shirts were too cute!  Good day and good race.  Snohomish Running Company always does a good job.  The finish area was full of food and goodies and runners looked like they were enjoying themselves. Oh, and did I mention, free race photos? Gotta love that!  Can't wait for next year!

Sprint to the finish.  Kristy was just behind us.
Mu hubby! Look at those sexy runner legs!
